Data Modeling & Reporting Architect

A Data Modeling and Reporting Architect @ Advantage Solutions is a highly technical individual responsible for driving activities in the following two distinct but related areas.

  • Creating Enterprise level Standard Data Models of all entities relevant to the company’s business, the relationships between them and for ensuring their communication and use across the organization in the creation of all software deliverables.
  • Establishing the frameworks and guidelines for the efficient design and creation of highly informative and efficient (meta data driven) reporting dashboards, in tools like Power BI, Tableau, Qlikview, etc., based on end user requirements. Power BI is the highly preferred Reporting and Dashboarding environment at Advantage Solutions.

To carry out these functions effectively, the Architect is expected to actively engage with a wide variety of business and technology stakeholders whether employees, contractors, or technology vendors to assist with project executions, provide and receive feedback on technology and pattern use, and mentor team members.  A versatile stakeholder, the Architect teams up with the delivery leadership to provide a holistic view of any solution within the Enterprise portfolio, with specific attention to Enterprise Applications, integration, and data concerns.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead the collaborative development of a technology strategy and architecture that aligns with corporate strategy and goals.
  • Lead the collaborative development of a technology roadmap(s) that achieves Advantage Solution's architecture.
  • Provide architecture designs that consider functionality, cost, performance, scalability, reusability, security, and extensibility.
  • Enhance our cloud capability by creating and implementing cloud-first patterns.
  • Define and facilitate the architecture processes, including the reporting and oversight of architecture deployment.
  • Work closely with peers across the organization to create and maintain architecture artifacts, operational documents, and automation playbooks.
  • Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to facilitate the delivery of solutions that align with business objectives in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Actively seek ways to improve processes and interactions.
  • Creating Enterprise Level Data Models
  • Creating Reporting Templates & Frameworks primarily for creating Power BI Reports & Dashboards, but possibly also for additional Reporting tools like Tableau and Qlikview.

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Actively seek ways to improve business applications/software processes, interactions and value through improved Data Modeling and Reporting capabilities enhancements.
  • Maintain domain knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.

Qualifications / Skills / Requirements

Primary Qualifications

  • Outstanding collaboration and communication skills are essential
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in architecting and designing solutions using at least three disciplines: cloud architecture, software development, data platform integration, business processes and capabilities, focusing on scalability, security, performance, and cost to serve
  • 10+ years of experience in applying architecture patterns, frameworks, and principles that cover application, data, business processes, and design concepts, enabling operational flow for scenarios such as application to application, business to business (B2B), direct to consumer (B2C), and digital integrations
  • 10+ yrs. Experience working on large-scale projects
  • 10+ yrs. Exposure to cloud-managed services, serverless technology, and microservices like Function-as-a-Service, Containers, and managed infrastructure-as-code
  • 10+ yrs. Experience overseeing customized development of processes for multiple projects simultaneously
  • 10+ yrs. Experience designing secure solutions based on industry specifications
  • Demonstrate a track record of leading collaboratively within complex organizations requiring strong influence management skills - the ability to work cooperatively at all levels in a matrix environment

Secondary Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience developing solutions on Public Cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, preferably Azure.
  • Demonstrated deep Data Modeling knowledge and 10+ years’ experience using Data Modeling tools like Lucidchart (current Advantage Solutions standard),, Erwin Data Modeler, ER/Studio, Oracle’s SQL Developer Data Modeler, Toad Data Modeler, PgModeler…
  • 5+ years’ experience developing Reports and Dashboards using at least two of the more popular Reporting tools like Power BI (current Advantage Solutions standard), Tableau, Qlikview, Looker, Zoho Analytics, Sisense, Crystal Reports, IBM Cognos Analytics, Jasper Report…
  • 2+ years of experience carrying out Data Modeling and Reporting work on projects responsible for more than 20 TB of data and serving more than 100 end users.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Planning

  • Regularly meet with stakeholders and users to determine requirements and demo development progress. Create wireframes and mockups, architect systems and data models, and plan a development roadmap.

Software Development

  • Code back-end services, controllers, and APIs; front-end views and components; and data models that meet the project’s requirements. Advance the codebase by removing technical debt.

Testing and QA

  • Incorporate and improve unit test coverage and generate UI tests to automate testing. Smoke test as needed and perform code reviews to ensure the accuracy and clarity of code.

Customer Service & Support

  • Provide post-release training, troubleshooting, and ad-hoc bug fixes. Write and keep technical documents up-to-date.

Personal & Team Growth

  • Adopt and advance the team’s best practices and actively contribute new ideas and concepts. Maintain understanding of current technologies and programming practices through continuous education, reading, workshops, and/or groups. Train new software engineers.

Minimum Qualifications
The following are the minimum job-related qualifications which an individual needs in order to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job
Education Level: (Required): Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Field of Study/Area of Experience: Computer Science or other related discipline

10 or more years of experience:

  • .NET, C#, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, T-SQL, MVC

Additional experience a plus:
• AngularJS, Azure, Bootstrap, jQuery, REST, SCSS, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Team Services
